Workspace Management Changes

The release of Cinnamon 1.6 makes workspace management easier and faster. Here is a brief look at some of the workspace management changes found in 1.6.

Quickly Create And Remove Workspaces

Users can create and remove workspaces directly from the workspaces overlay window. Use the + button on the right side of the workspaces window to create new workspaces. Users can also remove unwanted workspaces, just use the button found in the top right corner of each workspace in the overlay window.

Name Your Cinnamon Desktop Workspaces

Users can now rename workspaces directly from the workspaces overlay window as well. Every existing workspace inside the overlay window will contain a text input box for the workspace name beneath it. This feature is not new to Linux exactly, but Cinnamon certainly takes a new and efficient approach.

Cinnamon 1.6 Workspace OSD

The Workspace OSD will display your workspace name after switching from one workspace to another. This feature is also known as the workspace on-screen-display.

Workspace OSD Settings

The Cinnamon Settings manager contains a module for workspace settings. Here you can disable the workspace on-screen-display. There are even settings to change the display duration. Or you can change which monitors you would like the on-screen display to be shown on. You can now try Cinnamon 1.6 with Linux Mint 14.
